VINTAGE WWII AIRCRAFT TO TAKE FLIGHT ONCE AGAIN ON CAPE COD

HYANNIS, MA (August 31, 2015) – Fans and aviation lovers can get one step closer to earning their wings next month thanks to Barnstable Municipal Airport in Hyannis, which will once again host the Collings Foundations’ WINGS OF FREEDOM TOUR. Hitting 110 cities in more than 35 states and showcasing living history on the ground and in the skies, the tour brings extremely rare bomber and fighter aircraft – including the Boeing B-17 Flying Fortress “Nine O Nine” WWII Heavy Bomber, Consolidated B-24 Liberator “Witchcraft” WWII Heavy Bomber and P-51 Mustang fighter – to the Cape from Monday, September 14 to Wednesday, September 16.

The enduring planes will be exhibited at the Airport’s East Ramp with free parking on Mary Dunn Way. Ground tours as well as a one-of-a-kind 30-minute flight experience will be available to interested patrons. WWII veterans can tour through the aircraft at no cost!

The Collings Foundation is a 501c3 non-profit educational foundation devoted to organizing “living history” events that allows people to learn more about their heritage and history through direct participation. During this “layover” event in Hyannis, patrons have the rare opportunity to visit, explore, and learn more about these unique and rare treasures of aviation history. Specifically, the B-17 is one of only eight still in flying condition in the United States, while the B-24J and Full Dual Control P-51C Mustang, also known as the bombers “Little Friend,” are the sole remaining examples of their type flying in the world today.
 

Visitors are invited to explore the aircraft inside and out at a cost of $12 for adults and $6 for children under 12. These fees grant you access to up-close viewing and tours through the inside of the aircraft. They also allow the Foundation to continue their work of both restoring and preserving the aircraft for future generations. Discounted rates are also available for school groups.
